If you
fancy staying in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Rio with the best
view of the statue of Christ overlooking the harbour, head to this
hostel in Urca. The private rooms behind the house are too damp and
worn, but the dorm rooms and the house are very comfortable and there
is a small pool and garden in the back. The lounge room has couches,
cable TV, book exchange and internet and a small kitchen is free for
all to use. Laundry service is very slow, but breakfast is included

Casa
Aurea bed & breakfast
Perched
on a hill in the relaxed, bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa, this
125 year old home was once occupied by 26 families (at once!), then
by artists, and now by travelers lucky enough to know about it. The
artists left their art at the house and multi-lingual host Cornelius
transformed the home into Casa Aurea, a warm retreat with quiet living
room, lush garden, spacious rooms, open-air kitchen and large patio
with hammocks where a fantastic breakfast is served. Thanks to Cornelius
for a warm welcome. 80 Rua Aurea 21-2242-5830 $$
