AquaMotion

tours/accommodation
|
An incredibly organized and service-oriented company run by German
born Matthias Holzman, who has eight years of experience running an
extremely large variety of tours. AquaMotion is based in Puerto Varas
in the Lake District where we experienced fantastic excursions with
guides who are multi-lingual and very informative. They also offer
tours throughout Chile, including special interest trips which can
all be arranged before you arrive. We were highly impressed and had
an incredible week! 328 San Francisco, Puerto Varas. 65-232-747 |

Elqui
Valley Tour
tour company
|
This company offers several tours around the La Serena and Elqui Valley
area, including trips to the nearby national park and islands. We
had the opportunity to join them for a trip to Mamalluca Observatory
for an astronomy tour put on by the astronomers. The owners Claudio
and Carolina are very service-oriented and personal with their clients,
and there is English speaking staff in the office. They also have
a multi-lingual website. 460 Balmaceda St. 51-215-057 |

NORTE GRANDE - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA |
Cosmo
Andino Expediciones
tour company
|
Without a doubt, one of the best tour companies we've experienced.
Martin Beeris fell in love with San Pedro de Atacama and his Chilean
wife a long time ago and set up one of the first tour companies
in the town. Despite there now being several companies to choose
from, Cosmo Andino prides itself on personal service and tours that
take things a step further. Instead of just driving out to the attractions
and back, Cosmo Andino offers more walking, exploring, interesting
facts and time to enjoy this fascinating area. The guides are multi-lingual,
fun, and highly informative. Don't leave San Pedro without experiencing
Cosmo Andino Expediciones. Calle Caracoles. 55-851-069 |

Tatio
Geysers and Hot Springs
It's an early start, but worth getting up in the dark to drive up
to the steaming and exploding geysers, which release pressure every
morning built up from the night before. Eat breakfast at the geysers,
watch vicunas run wild around the area, then relaxing in the hot springs
kept warm from the bubbling geysers. 4am - 1pm |
Estrella
del Sur
(Sajama Tours)

tour company |
One of the many companies making the trip across the altiplano and
Salar de Uyuni, Sajama Tours has been in operation in Bolivia since
1999, and have a younger office in San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.
As the Rough Guide warns, all companies who do this trip are subject
to problems, including tire blowouts, run-down vehicles, miscommunication
across borders, and shortened itineraries. Although we did experience
some of these, we were happy with our driver and cook and only had
two other people in our 4WD, unlike many of the crowded cars from
larger companies. As with all companies, the drivers are not guides
and only speak Spanish, but our driver, Herman, was happy to make
lots of photo stops for us and was a great tire mechanic. Ask a lot
of questions before the trip and keep the trip flyer as confirmation
of your itinerary. 238 Caracoles St. 08-516-6032 |

If
you're looking for an extraordinary experience and something different
from the standard tours in Puerto Natales, go visit Juan Pablo at
Bagualesgroup.com, a combination of two companies, Rio Serrano and
21 de Mayo. Juan Pablo knows the river, the glaciers and the land
well, plus he is friends with many ranch and land owners, so you will
be invited into ranch homes and onto private land to see the Geikie
Glacier, a lesser known and rarely seen glacier. Small group adventure
tours can be tailor made to your needs and wants, varying in length
and activities. Camping gear and food included. Thanks to Juan Pablo,
Rio Serrano and 21 de Mayo for an amazing trip. 42 Bulnes St. ph:
