CAMBODIA HOME
CAMBODIA
is part of the region known as Indochina in Southeast ASIA.
After having suffered horribly through war times and the genocidal reign
of the Khmer Rouge in the 1970's, the country is now experiencing renewed
political stability, gradual economic growth, and growing foreign interest,
though many tourists still journey to Cambodia just to visit the magnificent
ancient temples of Angkor Wat.
However, the country has much more to offer, including beaches in the
south, mountain highlands in the north and west, and Tonle Sap Lake and
the Mekong River cutting through vast rolling plains full of rural villages.
Divided into
20 provinces around the capital city of Phnom Penh, Cambodia has a population
of over 13 million, 95% of which are Theravada Buddhists.
The main language
is Khmer, the currency is the Riel, and the phone country code is 855.
