Si

waterfall / park |
A
favorite stop for sightseeing tourists and picnicking locals alike,
the multi-tiered Kuang Si Falls are a beautiful sight and a nice place
for a picnic and a cool swim. Hike up the side stairs and further
up the falls for good views and hard-to-find secluded spots. Food
and drinks stands line the walk from the entrance to the falls. The
scenic 25 km journey to the falls is cheap by hired songthaew or mini-van. |

Night
Market

market |
Probably
one of the most loved tourist markets in SE Asia, the night market
here has a gorgeous selection of high quality, hand crafted goods
including duvet and pillow covers, painted wall hangings, statues
and carvings, jewelery, silk scarves, purses and bags, and more. You'll
want to decorate your entire home! Then head to the west side of the
market to try tons of authentic Lao foods from the stalls. Sisavangvong
Road is closed to traffic for the market from around 5-9pm nightly.

Tubing

water activity |
Float
down the Nam Xong River surrounded by towering limestone hills, stopping
at bamboo platform bars along the way for music, beers, bonfires,
tarzan swings, and ziplines into the water. The tubing hut in the
center of town rents tubes and drives you to the floating starting
point. Dry bags and life jackets available. Such a great day out that
many travelers go several times! |

Buddha
Park

sculpture garden |
This
fascinating collection of massive stone Hindu/Buddhist sculptures,
created by a holy man in the 1950s, is set in a lovely, peaceful garden
right on the Mekong River and makes for a great afternoon out of the
city. Though 25 km out of town, the local bus ride (#14) is cheap
and scenic through local villages. Small patio restaurant by the river
serves lunch. Popular with locals on the weekend. |
