Mates!
Still
having a great time catching up with mates in Sydney and making the rounds
staying at all their places around the city. While staying around the northern
beaches in Dee Why with Brad's brother Craig, we only had a 500 meter walk
to the ocean and beach cafes, where we got to know the waitresses and acoustic
entertainers quite well. Craig and his girlfriend Trish got the DVD's for
the show 24, so we had a weekend marathon with
our favorite TV drama. We also frequented the Manly Wharf Bar
in Manly several times, where we couldn't get enough of the sunny patio
and lively lounge. In the neighboring suburb of Harbord, we had dinner with
a view at Brad's cousin Tom's place, an amazing house he built himself,
being the owner of Evolve Building Company. Brad's aunt and uncle who told
us all about their fabulous tour company, Bishops
Australian Adventures. Out in the harbour on our mate Jason's boat,
Brad caught several fish while Jason hooked a stingray and an octopus! In
Mosman, where we often stay at our mate Steve's place, we got to visit our
Japanese friend Shu at his new restaurant, Twenty Double Eight.
Shu dazzled us with the Japanese dishes we miss so much and treated us to
dessert. Summer's Sydney Festival is endless fun with non-stop events and
music, so we joined the crowds at Jazz in the Park for
an evening of jazz, blues and picnicking at the Domain, and at our old apartment
in Marsfield, we caught up with the boys, BBQing night after night. Finally,
in infamous Bondi, we split up for the weekend as Bex stayed with girlfriends
and Brad stayed with the boys.
Between nights out, Brad is trying to keep our travel funds topped up, so he's gone back to work a bit at the Stamford Gym in the Stamford Hotel, North Ryde and met back up with some of his old clients who have missed his personal training sessions so much. Of course, we are also focusing on our favorite job, Explorenow.net. Our latest host was Harbour Jet, who treated us to a 50 minute jet boat ride in Sydney Harbour. The skipper Nigel revved the huge speed boat up to 75 km/h, did 270 degree spins, and hit the brakes just right so a wave of water came over the bow right into our lap. It was an exciting ride under the hot sun and we had a blast. Thank you to Monique and Harbour Jet! Where Next?: Our around the world itinerary has been finalized! We leave Sydney on Feb 12, and will travel on One World's various airlines across five continents over the next year. We've been having a great time researching various countries and meeting with the friendly, helpful and organized staff at Trailfinders travel agency. Check the Where Next page for our itinerary.
